Your Santa Cruz Custom Home Builder

Serving Clients in the Central Coast Region Since 2002

With its coastal cliffs, redwood forests, and laid-back lifestyle, Santa Cruz is one of California’s most inspiring places to build a custom home. Whether you’re envisioning a surfside retreat, a modern cabin in the woods, or a forever home overlooking the ocean, Santa Cruz offers the perfect mix of nature, creativity, and opportunity. At DC Builders, we specialize in designing and building homes that reflect the character of both the land and the people who live on it. With over two decades of experience across the California coast, we’re here to help you craft something timeless, personal, and built to last.

What We Do

At DC Builders, we specialize in custom residential construction that’s anything but one-size-fits-all. From the first sketch to the final walk-through, we handle every aspect of the building process under one roof—including design, structural engineering, interior design, framing and installation, and general contracting. That means a smoother experience for you and a finished home that’s cohesive, intentional, and beautifully built.

We’re best known for our timber frame and hybrid wood structures, but every home we design is tailored to the client—whether that means a hillside coastal home, a redwood-framed modern retreat, or something completely original. For clients interested in pre-engineered building kits, we also work closely with our sister company, DC Structures, to design and construct custom homes based on their signature line of prefab models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes—Santa Cruz offers a rare combination of coastal beauty, forested landscapes, and a creative, community-oriented lifestyle. Whether you’re drawn to the ocean, the hills, or the heart of town, it’s an ideal place to create a home that reflects your values and vision.

Absolutely. We regularly design homes on wooded, sloped, and view-oriented lots along the coast. Our team works closely with structural engineers and local officials to ensure your home meets environmental regulations while optimizing your design.

Most custom homes in the Santa Cruz area take between 12 and 18 months to complete, depending on permitting, terrain, and complexity. We help streamline the process with a simplified build system that uses pre-cut and pre-drilled framing lumber. A 3,000 sq. ft. home typically takes 9–12 months to build, including 2–3 months for dry-in and another 8–9 weeks for finishing.
